Program Description

Location
Single family homes in rural Niagara.

Parent-model Residences
Also known as mixed modality residences because of the unique feature of having live-in house parents with shift-based child care support, these residences provide a family environment to children and youth who have often moved several times in the foster care and adoption system because of their significant needs and externalized behaviour. MS parent-model homes strive to be that long-term maturational setting that provides the safety network of ‘parents’ and child care support to greatly reduce the likelihood of subsequent moves.

Staff-model Residences
Two of Mutual Support’s residences are staff-modelled.

  1. Transitional Residence

he transitional residence is for youth aged 15 to 18. Residents are admitted from other MS programs or through the external referral process.
The program is designed to assist youth as they move to their adult life to take more responsibility for their own outcomes through collaborative problem solving techniques. The program teaches life, social, and personal care skills in a manner suitable to each resident’s learning style. Each resident has a prime worker who is responsible to the Case Management team to implement the goals of the Plan of Care with the resident.

  2. Latency-aged Residence

The latency-aged program is for residents that require a highly structured program. Often residents have attachment issues or other aspects of their social history that make a parent-model placement inappropriate. The residence is designed to provide specialized and tailored treatment for each individual resident.

Capacity
Four (4) homes with seven (7) beds each.
